Managing Your Time While Earning a Doctorate
One of the big things is to find the time [to study] and to learn how to structure your time. I was really nervous at first. I do a lot of different things: I’m in the classroom. I teach some college classes. I do some educational consulting. My life is very busy and I did not know where I’d find the time to fit in this 14, 15 hours a week.

I would recommend coming up with some kind of schedule. The schedule is different for everybody depending on your situation. If you have young children at home, it’s going to look different than if you don’t, or if you’re running teenagers around to sporting events, that sort of thing. That’s one of the first things to get a handle on: your schedule.

Once you get in your routine, it’s OK, because you just build it in. It becomes this way of life for you and it’s OK. That’s one of the first things I would advise people. And not to worry, because there is enough support. So even for people who haven’t been in school for a while, or who have never taken an online class, the support that you need is there. You’ll be OK.
