Applying for Federal Aid

1. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically to the Federal Processing Center at least 45 days prior to the start of the academic term (or program start date for new students).

  • Walden’s Title IV Code:  025042
  • Loans starting 6/01/09 through 4/30/10, complete a 2009–2010 FAFSA
  • Loans starting 5/01/10 and after, complete a 2010–2011 FAFSA
  • Complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. If you have questions while completing the form, call the FAFSA help line at 1-800-433-3243.

2. Upon receipt of your FAFSA, the Federal Processing Center will analyze your application and forward a Student Aid Report (SAR) to you and the Walden University financial aid office within three to five business days. Once the FAFSA is received by the financial aid office, you may begin using the Walden University Online Financial Aid System to monitor the status of your financial aid application.

3. If you are selected for verification, the U.S. Department of Education requires that Walden collect additional information from you. To continue consideration of your application, you will be required to submit a federal tax return, a verification worksheet, and you may also be asked to provide additional documents to the financial aid office.

4. Award Notification: Upon determining your eligibility for loans and Pell Grants, the financial aid office notifies you by email that the award is available for viewing on the Walden University Online Financial Aid System. You must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Interview and return the Award Acknowledgment Form to the financial aid office.

5. Loan Guarantee: The financial aid office electronically transmits your loan information to the Guarantee Agency. The Guarantee Agency verifies that you do not have an outstanding defaulted or current student loan at another school. If everything is in order, your loan is guaranteed and your lender and the financial aid office are notified of loan approval.

6. Loan Disbursement: Your lender divides your total loan amount into three equal disbursements that are sent to Walden 10 days after the beginning of each academic term. The Guarantee Agency/Lender sends you a Notice of Loan Guarantee and Disclosure shortly after your first disbursement.

7. Pell Grants: Pell Grants are automatically credited to a student’s account 10 days after to the start of each quarter.
