Course Structure and Format

A Look Inside the Walden Online Classroom

Our online learning environment is asynchronous, meaning you can contribute to course discussions when it’s most convenient within a specified period. Weekly topics, required readings, and assignments are listed in the course syllabus provided by your instructor.

Courses have definite start and completion dates, and some require you to log in a specific number of times per week. The flow of online dialogue is preserved so you can follow and contribute to your classmates’ conversation as it unfolds and return to it as a reference.

Several of Walden's doctoral programs use an individualized research curriculum that includes Knowledge Area Modules (KAMs). Each KAM culminates in a scholarly paper that demonstrates your mastery of the breadth, depth, and application of an entire subject area. Through this learning model, you will be encouraged to conduct faculty-guided research and study in your area of interest.
