Global Day of Service
Walden University’s Global Day of Service, held on Saturday, October 3, 2009, was a tremendous success. This achievement was due in no small part to the more than 1,000 Walden alumni, students, staff and faculty members, and friends who gathered in cities around the world to complete nearly 40 service projects—25 projects in 22 U.S. cities and 14 international projects. This is almost double the number of projects completed in 2008.
Service projects in the United States included:
- Painting, cleaning, and repairing schools in Atlanta, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Diego
- Tutoring students in Atlanta, Cleveland, and Jacksonville, Fla.
- Working in food banks in Boston, Houston, Miami, New York, and Washington, D.C.
- Helping out in the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago and Charleston, W. Va.
- Painting and repairing community centers in Minneapolis and Detroit
- Participating in nonprofit fundraisers in Philadelphia and Seattle
- Rebuilding a house in New Orleans
- Repairing and cleaning a church in Savannah, Ga.
- Volunteering at a YMCA Family Festival in Las Vegas
- Assisting a motivational day at the Battered Women’s Foundation in Dallas
- Delivering supplies to a school in Jacksonville, Fla.
Thank you for your tremendous support and participation.
