Words Hurt: Understanding and Coping with the Bully and the Bullied Topics included:
Dr. Logan, Dr. Wiggins, and Dr. Williams also shared coping strategies and tactics for those impacted by bullying, including victims, parents, and educators. About the presenters: Dr. Colleen R. Logan is program coordinator of the M.S. in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling program in the School of Counseling and Social Service at Walden. Dr. Logan served as the president of the American Counseling Association from 2008–2009 and has been recognized for her contributions to the field of counseling as well as her leadership in promoting social justice through a focus on advocacy and equal rights. Dr. Karen Wiggins is a professor at Walden and coordinator of the Elementary Reading and Literacy (Grades PreK–6), Literacy and Learning in the Content Areas (Grades 6–12), and Adolescent Literacy and Technology (Grades 6–12) specializations in the M.S. in Education (M.S.Ed.) program. Prior to working at Walden, Dr. Wiggins served in a number of positions, including elementary school counselor. She has presented numerous workshops on bullying and set up peer mediation programs at both the elementary and middle school levels. Dr. Janet Williams is the director of the Office of Field Experience, supporting teacher and principal licensure candidates at Walden. Dr. Williams has worked in higher education as an associate dean at New Orleans University; within the Louisiana Department of Education; and as a principal, assistant principal, and teacher in Florida, Hawaii, Colorado, and Louisiana. As an educational leader, she has been involved with the No Place for Hate and anti-bullying initiatives at Rangeview High School in Aurora, Colo. Dr. Williams was recently a featured speaker along with students in Rangeview’s Student Diversity Alliance at state and regional conventions in the Denver area. |

Profiling the Adulterer Dr. Eaves is an adjunct faculty member of the School of Counseling and Social Services. A distinguished expert in the field of marriage and family counseling, Dr. Eaves has been published in numerous professional journals and textbooks. She has presented her research findings regionally and nationally on such topics as risky sexual behavior in adolescents, the relationship between self-esteem and infidelity, and preventing at-risk behaviors from early childhood. Dr. Eaves is a member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, among other professional organizations. You will also have the opportunity to learn about Walden’s M.S. in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling. An Objective Look at the New Healthcare Legislation Todd C. Linden, FACHE, president and CEO of Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa, discussed and reviewed the new healthcare legislation as it relates to healthcare professionals in public health, nursing, and healthcare administration. You’ll hear about what is and is not covered in the new legislation, who it affects and how, and the timing for implementing the new laws. Mr. Linden, a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, is a frequent speaker at national conferences and state hospital associations. He has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate on healthcare issues, and he led a national effort to add language to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 that addressed the inequitable Medicare reimbursement level for mid-sized rural hospitals in the United States.
