Educational Leadership (Non-Licensure) (Grades K–12) Internship

Throughout the program, you will participate in various internship activities to help you get more deeply involved in the projects, programs, and responsibilities that an educational leader faces on the job. These activities may involve conducting research, analyzing findings, and interviewing key personnel.

You will collaborate with, and receive professional guidance from, an internship team that includes a faculty internship advisor assigned by Walden and a mentor selected by you and approved by Walden. The internship extends throughout the program and features

  • Practical applications within each of the courses
  • Ability to participate in internship experiences during your courses
  • A compilation and evaluation of internship artifacts in a program portfolio

Selecting Your Mentor

Your internship mentor plays a critical role in your learning experience. Selecting a mentor is a very important decision. He or she should be an experienced education professional who has the time to invest in your development. Download an overview (pdf) of mentor roles and responsibilities. Share this overview with your potential mentor to address common questions he or she may have regarding the practicum experience and to make sure he or she is a good fit for the role.

You are required to submit a form with your mentor’s signature during your first course. We strongly recommend that you secure your mentor before starting your first course.
