Middle Level Education (Grades 5–8)
This specialization, based on the standards for Middle Level Teacher Preparation approved by the National Middle School Association and NCATE, provides knowledge and skills related to young adolescent development, organizational structures, curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and content knowledge all focused on this specific age group.
Emphasis on Practical Strategies
- Examine the changes in a student’s social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and moral development.
- Acquire assessment, curriculum, and teaching strategies designed specifically for students ages 10–14.
- Study organizational structures for students and teachers in high-performing middle grade schools.
Completion Requirements
- 30 total semester credit hours
