Seeking Principal/Administrator Licensure
Prospective or current students seeking principal licensure in Mississippi or Texas should refer to the State-Specific Licensure Issues website, here.
The only program offered by Walden that is state-approved as leading to any administrative/leadership license (e.g., assistant principal, principal, teacher leader, superintendent) is the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Administration, which has been approved in Minnesota for leading to licensure as a P-12 principal.
In addition, through a partnership with the Harris County Department of Education, Walden’s M.S. in Education, Educational Leadership program leads to principal licensure at the master’s level in Texas. More information about the Texas Principal Certification Program can be found at http://www.hcde-texas.org/default.aspx?name=PrinCert.
Prospective candidates from outside of Minnesota should review their own states’ requirements to ensure that completing a teacher or principal preparation program at Walden will meet eligibility requirements for similar licensure in their states.
Walden enrollment advisors can provide guidance about educator licensure, however, it remains the individuals responsibility to understand and comply with state licensure requirements.

Seeking an Endorsement in an area other than Special Education
Many states require educators to complete a state-approved program in order to obtain an endorsement/additional teaching field, particularly in the area of reading. The only state-approved endorsement program Walden offers is in special education.
In addition, states may have requirements, such as a practicum, that may not be met through the completion of a Walden program. Walden makes no representation or guarantee that successful completion of Walden's programs, or coursework for graduate credit, will permit an individual to obtain state licensure or endorsement as a P–12 teacher or administrator.

Seeking an Endorsement in Special Education
Not applicable in all states. Walden University is approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching to offer teacher endorsement programs that lead to Minnesota endorsement or add-on in special education (P–12 learning disabilities and/or P–12 emotional/behavioral disorders). Candidates for this program must already hold a valid P–12 teaching license. Before Walden can recommend you for endorsement to the Minnesota Board of Teaching, you must also pass the Praxis II tests pertinent to your teaching content area.
For individuals seeking a comparable teaching endorsement in a state other than Minnesota, Walden’s enrollment advisors can provide individuals with guidelines and other information about endorsements. It remains the individual’s responsibility to understand and comply with the out-of-state endorsement requirements for the state in which he or she seeks to be endorsed, as requirements vary state by state. Walden University makes no representation nor guarantee that successful completion of Walden's programs, or coursework for graduate credit, will permit a graduate to obtain state licensure or endorsement as a P–12 teacher or administrator.
This statement applies to the following programs:

Seeking an Initial Teaching License
Walden University is approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching to offer a teacher preparation program that lead to Minnesota licensure in early childhood education (birth through grade 3) and special education (P–12 learning disabilities and/or P–12 emotional/behavioral disorders). Before Walden can recommend you for licensure to the Minnesota Department of Education, you must obtain the required scores on both the Praxis I and Praxis II exams.
For individuals seeking a comparable teaching license in a state other than Minnesota, Walden’s enrollment advisors can provide guidelines and other information about licensure. It remains the individual’s responsibility to understand and comply with the out-of-state licensure requirements for the state in which he or she seeks to be licensed, as requirements vary state by state. Walden University makes no representation or guarantee that successful completion of any program or coursework will permit teacher candidates to obtain state certification or licensure in their home state (or any other state).
In all states, there are policies regarding out-of-state procedures that must be followed when someone is eligible for or has received licensure through an out-of-state institution with a state-approved program, such as the Minnesota state-approved programs at Walden University. Some states require that an individual obtain the out-of-state license first; other states do not require the actual license, just completion of a state-approved program.
Walden enrollment advisors can provide guidance about educator licensure, however, it remains the individuals responsibility to understand and comply with state licensure requirements.
