Dr. Richard L. Simms

Dr. Richard L. Simms is associate dean for Undergraduate and Educator Licensure Programs for The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden. In this role, he brings nearly 38 years of experience to provide leadership for academic programs, faculty development, and ensuring the quality of the student experience.

Before coming to Walden, Dr. Simms was the supervisor of teacher education at the Minnesota Board of Teaching, 1988–2007. His responsibilities included providing leadership in development of public policy for teacher education initiatives, development of state institutional accreditation standards and review procedures, creating and administering the licensure program review system, and the preparation of legislative reports and rationale for proposed licensing rules.

Dr. Simms has served on national committees and boards associated with the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium, the Education Commission of the States, and the Educational Testing Service. Dr. Simms completed his academic degrees at Wayne State University, in Detroit, including an Ed.D. in 1980.
