The professional activities of Walden University's alumni are having a significant impact on their organizations, disciplines, and communities. Here are some recent highlights:

Christina L. Burtis ’08, who earned an M.S. degree in Nursing with a specialization in Education, became a full-time nursing faculty member for the Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences in Lancaster, Pa.

Katherine P. Kelly ’08, who earned an M.S. degree in Nursing, published an article titled “Code 42: A Quality Initiative Program for Improving Door-to-Balloon Times in ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction” in the Nov. 4, 2008, issue of Cath Lab Digest, a peer-reviewed publication.

John Allan Menez ’08, who earned an M.S. degree in Nursing published two articles in Med-Surg Matters!, the official newsletter of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses: “Research in Evidence-Based Nursing Practice” (Volume 16, Issue 4) and “Chronic Pain: A Prevailing Public Health Issue” (Volume 16, Issue 6).

Jodi Zastrow ’08, who earned an M.S. degree in Nursing with a specialization in Leadership and Management, is serving as the associate director of nursing in the School of Nursing at Rasmussen College’s Brooklyn Park, Minn., campus.

Theresa Middleton Brosche ’07, who earned an M.S. degree in Nursing, presented a poster titled “Implementation of an ICU Concept Class to Enhance the Clinical Learning Environment” at the National League for Nursing’s Research Conference in New Orleans, Jan. 8-10. Brosche also published Clinical Instruction Online Course (Jones and Bartlett Publishers, 2008) on CD-ROM.

Susan Sonnier ’07, who earned an M.S. degree in Nursing, published a chapter in the textbook Disaster Nursing: A Handbook for Practice (Jones and Bar tlett Publishers, 2009), titled “Communicating in a Disaster.” She also wrote two appendices for the textbook. Sonnier was recently voted Nurse of the Year at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster, Texas. She and fellow School of Nursing graduates Lydia Lopez, Desiree Carter, Chad Troxell, and Beverly Ward attended the January 2009 Walden commencement ceremonies and served as the Walden University Nursing Alumni Association Advisory Council. They hosted and launched the new Nursing Alumni Association with a breakfast and pinning of the graduates.
